Madrid wins in Riazor with authority (and the Guti magic)

Very much one has spoken this week of the supposed curse that was suffering Real Madrid whenever it approaches the Tower of Hércules. A word used in the Plateau, because here in fact we speak of meigallo, whose more accurate translation to the language of Lorca is “a spell“. And the fact is that meigas, habelas, hailas, what it spends is that yesterday they were of fall for injury.

And the fact is that both the Sports one and Madrid came with many falls to this first meeting of the second return. Skylight that the devaluation of one and another team have not anything in common. As the same Lendoiro was saying, if to Madrid he lacks the holder A, you are extracted by a B that is international. A good pole of measuring to know where it is each one is that none of the deportivistas that yesterday played would be to title in Madrid, while any of Madrid would be an indisputable holder in the Dépor.
I will try to be brief in the history of the party to center on two matters that deserve more interest to me. Those of Pellegrini surprised with his exit, looking for the ball, running, pressing above … everything opposite that those of Lotina, with many men at the edge of his physicist, both for the muscular inconveniences of some and for the piled up weariness of all, to what it is necessary to join the depression post-Filipe and, especially, this historical tendency to Madrid always put itself in the worst thing when they paint pack-saddles … marked before the first quarter of an hour and beat again to the knife-edge of the rest. The Dépor was impotent, even apathetically in some phase, and only the penalty that Riki turned allowed him to approach in the scoreboard in 87 and glimpse a miracle that Benzema denied to him with his second goal of the night.

Let’s go to the garlic. Without any place to the doubt, this party will be remembered by what happened in the minute 40 of the first part. One against of the meringues that it begins with Benzema touching for Kaká, finishes in the Guti feet, only in front of Aranzubía (the best blue and white one yesterday evening). It enters the area, throws a glance behind, out of the corner of the eye, and when it comes to the penalty point, the ball transfers Benzema with a taconazo that will go down in history. For the one that this post signs, one of the best assistance that it has seen in all his life. Because yes, it was he who could have pulled, and yes, it did not have anybody above, but: what happens! A real genius within reach of very few soccer players, much, very few.
pro_photo1264934228.jpg And for whom does not it seem to him so much, that he thinks what should spend if the move does not finish in goal, in the risk that Guti assumes, in such a delicate moment of his career, on having chosen of between all the possibilities that it had the riskiest, the most illogical for the rest of the mortal ones, the most beautiful … A touch to stand up and to applaud to show him the gratitude that is deserved. Now: what player’s pity, what pity of crazy head. I have always said it, Guti is the most wasted talent that I have seen in the soccer since I have use of reason.

Another topic that he wanted to treat is much more unpleasant. It looks like to me a shame to see so much Real Madrid supporter in Riazor. It goes ahead that respected everybody and I am a fervent defender that a deportivista could go to Vigo without problems and vice versa, and the same for any other team. And I am the first one in enjoying on having seen how thousands of sportinguistas take A Coruna to accompany his team. But the people who yesterday was occupying half of the seats they are not of Madrid (or ourensanos or from Leon or Japanese) that come of out, at all of that. They are of Corunna (and of peoples of around). These thousands of persons who celebrated each of three goals of Madrid, which even protested the penalty in favor of the Dépor, are of Corunna. Natives of A Coruna!

At this point of the life, to see that half of your fellow citizens appreciates more that thing about was that what they have at home is depressing. Because not all sound the people major who grew with the Dépor in Second B and who was done of Madrid in the epoch of Amancio, there are many young people that, in spite of having grown seeing Bebeto, Mauro, Fran, Djalminha… is from Madrid. Perhaps during the rest of the year they are of the Dépor, and the fact is that many people are associates and habitual in Riazor, but when Madrid comes they take the mask from themselves. Also it happens when the Barca comes and gives me the same anger, but yesterday it overcomes that thing about the seen in other occasions. Or tempora, or reside!

And with the anger, neither not against Madrid nor the madridismo but against my fellow citizens, almost one forgets to comment to me on another matter. Just as a few days ago I put cane to Madrid for his permissiveness with the Ultras South, today I have to admit that I liked knowing that Florentino Pérez and Jorge Valdano visited Filipe Luis in his domicile to give him fortitude (it is not necessary to forget that the brasileiro was part of the quarry of the white club) and that the titular team of Pellegrini went out with a few proper support T-shirts, that is to say, they did not put themselves them because the Dépor or the field delegate offered them to himself, but it was a proper initiative. Before both gestures, I take the hat from myself.

Back to Square One

November 29, 2009:  Arsenal 0 – Chelsea 3.  Arsenal were 11 points adrift of the top.

February 7, 2009:  Chelsea 2 – Arsenal 0.  Arsenal are 9 points adrift of the top.

The true believer will say that we climbed out of that hole back in November and we can do it again.

The cynic will respond that there are less games now and each game is crucial for every club.

The believer will say that we have an easier run of games after this one — with only Liverpool, Spurs and Man City as serious challengers.

The cynic will point out that we have dropped points against Sunderland, Burnley and West Ham already.

The believer will point to our 60 goals scored — which stands next to United’s 61 and Chelsea’s 60 as best in the Prem.

The cynic will point to our 30 goals conceded.

The believer will say have faith.

The cynic will ask for a reason.

More tomorrow…maybe…

Gomes 8.1 Super duper double save

Corluka 6.8 Now again does a bloody good impression of a chap who’s been with us forever.

Dawson 7.1 Needs to be handed the Captain’s armband, perhaps in a small, low key ceremony.

King 7 One of his better outings. Listen closely today and you’ll hear his blood being changed.

Bale 8 Bale is good stuff. More please.

Modric 7 He’s rather good, isn’t he? Croatian interntional by all accounts.

Huddlestone 6.8 Much more consistent performance. Cracking shot on him still I see.

Palacios 7 The friendliest enforcer you could possibly meet.

Bentley 7 The argument against him is now built purely upon his hair.

Defoe 6 Almost, but not quite anonymous when not shooting.

Crouch 6.7 Did much right, countless knockdowns in the first half.

Arry 7 Do you know how to make a substitute, Aitch?

Spurs fans left fuming – Villa laughing

Angry Spuds
I have to start by saying the texts and messages I have received from some of my friends who are Spurs fans yesterday has made a hilarious read. Now I accept that Spurs were much the better team
for large spells of that game – but if you sum it up as defence vs attack then put simply the Villa defence won that battle. Just as when they drew with Birmingham recently Spurs have a
frustrating knack of not being able to kill off games, and their record against the clubs above them bares out the cold hard fact that Defoe and co – haven’t turned on the style against the teams
that count.

That’s said, i am envious of their attacking options, squad and they way they play overall and I have nothing against their fans either – just it was inevitable that their frustrations boiled
over yesterday.

Hit it long or two the wings – again and again and again
I am increasingly frustrated as to why Villa seem to be playing with so little central midfield play and way too many long balls (nothing has changed on that front since last year really – it was
problem then and is now). We sold/loaned players in the transfer window but brought no-one in to try and add a bit of creative edge in midfield or some more guns upfront. Ultimately that will
probably destroy our chances of a top 4 finish as I just don’t think we will score enough goals to get there.

Carew vs Delfouneso
Carew really has been mostly a pale shadow of himself this season, recent injuries haven’t helped but he was totally toothless against Spurs. Heskey has done ok but will never get the goals we
need and Gabby blows hot and cold although he brings a lot more than just goals to the team (but we need the goals). Everytime I have seen Delf play he has looked sharp and capable, but with MONs
static sub policy he never gets on the pitch and this has to change and NOW.

Milner CM
I am in no way going to criticise the talisman of the team but does anyone else feel that he floats wide and in areas of the pitch that surely Downing, Gabby and Ash should have covered? We’ve
seen him play killer balls into the penalty area since he switched to central midfield and we need much more of that, or else we need Petrov to realise that he can run and pass forward if he
chooses to rather than just backwards and sideways. Also what is the point of Downing? Great player but for some reason he just doesn’t seem to contribute much presently? I also want to see more
of what Delph can do – surely he must be a better option than bringing on Sidwell who in my opinion is a total waste of space.

Bottom line is that long balls and constant counter attacking wing play won’t win us a Champion’s league spot, MON needs to take a few gambles and freshen our side up a bit as we are just too
predictable of late. Whilst we have the best goal keeper in the country on this form and with Dunne probably the best defender – I have no idea why we didn’t go for Robbie Keane or someone like
that to bolster our one dimensional attack???

Push Push.

So our traditional football playing day of Sunday has come around again and Arsenal get to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at 4pm this afternoon. I described last Sunday’s match as our most
important of the season so far and we didn’t show up with the football that we can play. It’s been gone through with a fine comb all week and suffice it to say that if we defend like that and
allow Chelsea as much space as we allowed Manure then we will suffer the same fate this week. With their 2 main rivals playing today Manure took full advantage yesterday by thumping Portsmouth
5-0 with the aid of 3 own goals. I know they deserved to win and it could have been more but they are also having a great deal of luck at the moment and when that stops it will be interesting
to see how their results fare. The other big winners yesterday were Liverpool ahead of our game against them on Wednesday night as their continued their recent good run by beating Everton while
all the other teams looking to finish 4th dropped points.

The team today should be fairly similar to last week’s team with the possible exception of Bendtner playing the centre forward role. With RVP’s season as good as over this is his chance to show
us what he can do and hopefully he can take it. He probably would have had the chance a lot sooner but he has been injured himself and he certainly has enough confidence in his own ability to
succeed. I’m not too sure he’s the man for the position but he would seem to be our best option today. With the boss saying that Almunia will start in goals and if fit Diaby will be in the
squad I imagine that the only change will be Bendtner as he also shows faith in Denilson. That means either Rosicky or Nasri will miss out unless he plays 1 of them in midfield instead of
Denilson. I would like to see Ramsey play but I’m almost certain he won’t and even if he does it never quite works when he plays alongside Cesc. So with virtually the same team on the pitch the
only thing we can change is our attitude and committment and they will need to be spot to combat a team who always seem to show up for the big games.

With all the controversy surronding their skipper I’m sure the home fans will give him a great reception but listen to the Arsenal fans singing and I’m sure he won’t get off so lightly. The
boss said that last seasons home defeat to them was a bit of a freak result as we had just gone out of the Champions league and even though we lost 4-1 we played quite well. It was a very tough
spell for us asour whole season fell apart before our eyes and the boss has no doubt that after last week’s defeat to Manure we will see the response that is needed today. He has said we are up
to the challenge a few times in the past 9 months against both of those teams and mostly we haven’t been but today needs to be different. I don’t care if the performance is bad if we get the
right result but if we lose we need to have put in a really solid performance and shown how much it means to the players to play for Arsenal in such a big game. As I said earlier in the week we
should try to wind Terry up and not be afraid to get stuck in as we’re too nice for our own good at times.

Today’s blog should have had a lot more to it but after walking the dog to Puck’s Castle and the smelting tower in the local hills we got a bit disorientated and lost about 45 minutes in a
heavy mist. That means the roast beef is cooking as I type and I have to get myself to the supporters club in time for the kick off. We have decided to make a club trip to the Man City game in
April and I hope to be going to that game along with hopefully 20 other members. It would appear that Chamakh says he wants to join us in the summer and he certainly looks like he would be a
better cover for RVP than any of our current candidates on current form. We do need top class cover for RVP because I for 1 don’t know if he will ever make it through a season unscathed. There
are stories about today saying we tried to sign Sorrensen from Stoke on deadline day and with them signing the Portsmouth keeper there might well be something to them but we didn’t and we can
only hope Almunia can repay the faith the boss is showing in him at the moment. The boss did say that mistakes at the back can spread uncertainty through the whole team but our mistakes come
from 1 main source and a few other lesser ones and I’m sure that despite his defence of Almunia he knows that. That’s it for today except to say that I as always predict an Arsenal win and I’ll
go for 3-2 with hopefully Drogba getting injured in the 1st minute so that he can’t inflict more pain on us.

Here’s a little bit of what Clichy looked like when he was playing really well. Let’s hope he can regain that form.

And to finish  today’s title track from Black Uhuru. We need to make sure Chelsea aren’t allowed the time and space that we allowed Manure last week and we will have to push them really
hard to do that.

See You Tomorrow.
