Didn’t someone open a window?
you greedy, giving you football every couple of days so that having to wait four whole days becomes an eternity.
A lot has been made of the non-Englishness in the starting lineups of Portsmouth v Arsenal, with not one English man starting for the first time in the history of football or something.
Nevermind that Arsenal are bringing through more English superstars than any other club, enough, in fact, to ensure that come the 2014 World Cup most of the England squad could be Arsenal
players, what the fuck does it matter? As me and my Man U supporting mate were discussing, if the Premier League consisted of nothing but English players it would be the worst league in the
world. In fact, as I said, it would be like Serie A – dull as Spud supporters DVD collection.
Wenger has always said that if English players are good enough they will get into first teams. Clubs like Arsenal are constantly slammed for ruining the chances of young English talent when
they are bringing through more than all the other clubs combined. Clubs like Man City and Chelsea do more damage as they just buy established players and don’t give a toss about any young
players. And, as I’m sure I’ve said before, English players can only benefit from playing alongside the best in the world. Blah blah blah.
In five years time you can pretty much guarantee that Arsenal’s core will be English, but they will get no credit for it. We get no credit for anything. It’ll just make it sweeter when we shove
it up their red-top arses.
In Arsene’s only pre-West Ham interview on Arsenal TV online he was very cagey when asked where the FA Cup lay in his priorities and it does seem to have lost some of its ‘status’ in Wenger’s
eyes given how close we are to the top of the table, but I still think it’s a trophy we should be going all out to win. As much as I’m sure we’re going to bring the league home, you just can’t
depend on these things alone, and I know anything can happen in a cup competition, but I’d like to see us approach it in a professional manner.
Apparently Big Phil has had a ‘foot’ problem which is what has kept him out of the squad. I wonder if that is the same kind of ‘foot’ problem like Almunia’s ‘chest’ infection? Anyway, if he can
pass his fitness test, he’ll play against West Ham which is just strange all around.
Silvestre and Senderos as centrehalf’s in front of Fabianski perhaps? Crikey.
He made no mention of our supposed new Boot boy when asked about possible transfers. Nobody will be sold in January which isn’t as surprising as the sun coming up this morning. A part from the
Senderos thing. That’s just a really weird one.
Wenger was also very, very passionate about what an amazing feat it is for us to have scored 51 goals in 19 games, saying he doesn’t think that Arsenal’s efficiency going forward gets enough
credit. His emphasis was on the ‘have’ when he said he expected Bendtner back at the start of January and since that isn’t the case we have to get someone. Have to.
Anyone else think he’s got a ‘who?’ lined up already? I do.
I also think somebody gave him Hash cookies a while back as he thinks we look stable defensively now. Back four? Yes. Goalkeeper? No. Result? A wobbley in between bit where no one seems to know
what’s going on and mass panic everytime the ball is crossed high in to the box.
I was watching the season review of the 03/04 season and was amazed to see the goals we were letting in, even during the Invincibles run. It wasn’t so much the volume as the manner of the
defending. If you squinted you could almost see the current team. That bodes well and is obviously how Arsene thinks you are supposed to defend as it has apparently been a constant.
He thinks it will be a busy transfer window which is, let’s face, a hell of a lot more fun than what we’ve had in the last two windows. People might pretend to hate the transfer window, but I
think it’s great fun, in a sick, twisted kind of way. All the rumours and gossip, though not too many shocks anymore (Robinho to Man City being the last WTF transfer that I can remember). A few
more would be really quite sweet – like Akinfeev to Arsenal. Not only would that make me happy, it would also shut me up which means it win-win for you lot too.
One player who was looking like going out on loan, now looks more unlikely, and that’s Jack. With Owen Coyle seemingly being swayed by the Bolton job we aren’t going to let him go to a pile of
hoof-footballers to get kicked to death in training by that troglodyte Davies (did you know his middle name was Cyril?) and I doubt we’ll let him go to a club with no manager.
Somehow the Sun has managed to turn Wenger’s quote saying he would rest ‘some’ of his players into Wenger’s resting all his players against West Hame. Surely there has to be some law regarding
this sort of shite? The Mirror has followed suit with a ‘Wenger set to field reserves’ piece of nonsense. When you consider how many players we still have out injured (despite the fact that Sky
Sports seem to think that only Cesc and Bendtner are out) and that we played three games in 6 days with another on its way only three days after our FA Cup game you’d be foolish to think he was
going to play the entire fit first-team, but the reserves? The actual Carling Cup team? Don’t be so bloody stupid.
And that’s it, there’s no other rumours around which is all very strange, what with the window actually being open.
I’ll do a proper team review tomorrow.
A little bit of shamless self-promotion, and as I know you’re all loaded down with xmas money, don’t forget to head to the new look www.arsenaltshirts.com where there’s a ton of Arsenal themed
Tshirts and for those who prefer to do it themselves, iron-on transfers.
Remember, all profit goes to a desperate gooner trying to quit her job…what could be a more worthy cause?
