Just shouting at the moon.
Anyone else feel that looking at the back pages of the daily rag is becoming increasingly difficult these days. When did our national sport turn in to a celebrity freak show?
Did it start with Becks? I’m racking my brain here and an old theory stirs.
The 1990 world cup.
Gazza grabbed hold of the type of person who was indifferent about football. These people would later become Man Utd fans. The class system was breached and football became priced at middle
class prices. Forcing the common man out of a match day. This probably explains the atmosphere in the Emirates. My team have a lot of fans that are too polite to cheer, why would they?
I suppose it would be churlish to just blame poor old Gazza for all the celebrity nonsense that we see now. The real culprit was Rupert Murdoch. When sky got their teeth in to football it was
marketed in such a way that it created hype of almost American standards.
Sky have created a monster. They have thrown money at the English game inviting a ‘be in the Premiership or die trying’ mentality that is killing big clubs.
I look at the dearth of talent that England face. I wonder what is wrong.
If there was less pressure on fame would more talented players develop? Free to be more creative away from the constant microscope of a million cameras all waiting for weakness that celebrity
brings.
I’m just ranting now. I just hate the’ Hello’ lifestyle that modern football has embraced. I just feel that we are asking for trouble when we are ready to hammer someone who has been put on a
false pedestal by the media and then destroyed by the same medium. The media are perverted they love to see the people they have championed fall from grace. It sells papers.
Leave football alone you idiots. You’ve already done enough damage to the rest of society.
