Shooting The Gooners
Another season will end this weekend, and looking back at the year arsenal had, we must say we expected more. A terrific start to the season proved nothing in a title bid. The fat
that the gunners did not win the title comes down to their own frailties. Given the caliber of the teams in the final matches, the young team, even without their captain we should have better
than third (I can’t even imagine falling down to 4th behind our closest rivals).
The team has been weak defensively not because of the need for a defender but because of the inability of the midfield to shield an over worked back line. A midfield so engulfed in
the stylish attacking methods which produce goals only when the opposition allows it. The midfielders needed to be stronger, smarter and a lot more focused. It pains me to see Nani make
wonderful tackles in the midfield knowing that a day earlier Nasri was brushed aside. the holding midfielder is not suppose to be the only one in the midfield that knows how to defend.
No blame attached to injury, because in Arsene we trust and what has happened for five season now, would not repeat it self. Or so he expected. Please excuse my frustration but
understand my plea for sensible spending during this transfer window. The last year on his contract and Wenger knows he has to perform. I know he is an economist first and a manager second but
being a man is part pf being a manager.I pray his fear of star players controlling the dressing room will some how be lifted and a great talent will be brought to the club. We need an
exceptionally gifted winger, a strong central midfielder, a replacement for the aging Gallas when he’s unfit, a consistent goal keeper and to return to a 4-4-2.
