The Kop End Debate: The New Home Kit
Carlsberg don’t do kits… Well, not anymore they don’t.
On the 8th of April, the new home kit was revealed. This, as you can see, it resembles the once famous and still classic ‘Candy’ kit of old. While this kit seems to be a big hit, there are still many who dislike it. I myself got caught up in all the excitement when I found myself seconds away from pre ordering the kit a couple of weeks before release. I must admit, the prospect of a free towel did appeal to me, you can never have enough towels. However, I declined to purchase after reviewing my financial situation.
So then, imagine my surprise when the kit was finally unvleiled; by surprise I mean relief, and by relief I really mean horror. There was just something about this kit that struck a nerve and triggered a gag reflex. This, then, was down to the absence of those 9 letters; c – a – r – l – s – b – e – r – g.
If I am being honest with myself, the kit is great, I have always liked the old Candy kit and still maintain my stance that it was the best kit we have had. But part of me is having real trouble saying goodbye to a sponsor which I have become to accustomed to. I’m not usually the sentimental type, in fact, I dont do valentines day and rarely participate in PDA, but I have been raised with Carlsberg as a sponsor so excuse me if I am still mourning.
The sleeves are also rather strange. It isnt quite long sleeve, yet it isn’t exactly short sleeve; it’s elbow length. I don’t know, perhaps it will grow on me, but at the moment I am being bitter at Standard Chartered. I like the kit, the sponsor just looks odd.
With this being the last season for Carlsberg, we arent exactly giving it a good send off, our form is poor and our spirits low. Looking back, though, the kit hasnt exactly been a lucky one, has it? Failing to win the EPL while it took center stage on our jerseys. Hopefully, then, this new kit will be more lucky and usher in a new dawn. Hopefully, just hopefully, we will see some big names pull it over their heads.
The pictures of the players wearing the kit is what strikes me most. This literally looks like they will end up doing an ‘incredible hulk’ should they sneeze mid game.
What do you make of the shirt though?
