The deportivismo, a love with the feet in the soil
Counting the current campaign 2009-2010, the Sports one of Corunna takes 19 periods in the First. Behind there remained two you were wonderful, that of Superdépor de Arsenio, which achieved the first Cup of the King, and that of Eurodépor de Irureta, which reached the sky with his first League and the ‘Centenariazo’, in addition to doing a name to him in Europe playing five followed Champions.
Now the Dépor lives through an epoch of weak cows, lashed by an economic debt acquired in those years of crazy expenses and with a team without any world star. After the Irureta march, Lendoiro gave the control to Caparrós, which left two periods later after not achieving anything special, but being a key piece in the transition. From the period 2007-2008 Lotina takes the reins of a staff that every year loses some piece that is not replaced properly.
Last year touched fund when in the day 21 was to five points of going out of the descent positions, but it managed to do an incredible recovery that led it to glimpsing the power to get into the struggle for Europe (UEFA and Intertoto) in the last days. This period has started very well, being located 6th after nine days. The deportivismo is satisfied and expectant, but in a realistic way; of it it is about what I want to speak to you.
The Sports one went so far as to have 17.500 subscribers in the Second Division during the period 89/90, in his penultimate campaign before climbing. For his first years back in the First, the Stadium of Riazor had an average of entry of 25.000 spectators in a graderío that could lodge 29.000. In 97 there was released the reshaping that increased his capacity up to the 34.500. Riazor filled repeatedly to receive the Celt, the Barca, Madrid and the big ones of Europe who visited the Dépor (and they suffered it).
In the last years the number of associates suffered a serious descent but at present it has excelled itself again 20.000 subscribers. It is true that the assistance to the field usually does not overcome 15.000 persons, but of this it has great blames the current state of the traffic and the serious problem of parking about a stadium that is very close to the funnel into which a city turns with peninsular structure. But good, 20.000 fans who received to the Seville in the day 7 suppose that the stadium receives almost 10 % of inhabitants of A Coruna (245.000, INE 2008), something of what very few fields can presume in the First.
The most important thing is not in the numbers but how the people behave. Only four years after his last participation in Champions League the deportivismo has retrained without too many traumas. He has been able to understand that the current situation is the normal thing and that the happened in those three glorious periods of five years was a very nice history, of which it is necessary to feel proud and that it will be a raw material of thousand and battles of future grandparents of Corunna.
Now the times they have changed; the Dépor has been a small, owed team again, with a very limited budget and with a market that does not spread much further of A Coruna and Gallicia. His realistic aspirations it is to sufficiently be right in it not to get in problems to continue in the First, thing that yes last year happened. Also, here there is born very in mind the happened with the Celt of Vigo, where also they lived through a big epoch (two ends of Cup), but which, when it went so far as to play Champions, lost the category and now it is plunged in a well of which it does not manage to go out.
In A Coruna the deportivistas speak about the Sunday party with a language that resembles the times of Arsenio:
- very well, to see what we do Sunday, which we play out …
– yes, good, if we put a golito and last well in defense …
- very well, I with 0-1 happen with a singing in the teeth.
- certainly. And if we tie, since it hears, a puntito out is not badly at all …
The deportivismo has been able to adapt himself to his new reality because nobody forgot the real nature of the club. There occurs to me a series of teams (that I will not name not to wake up polemics) that if they had to live through this transformation, they would not take it well at all. A Coruna is a small town, the Sports one is a small team and natives of A Coruna and deportivistas they are satisfied with it. In his moment the Dépor became deserving of the fondness of the whole Spain and, during these years, too many hates have not been gained. Now it puts the head out again in the European positions and the love begins to excite, but without stopping having the feet in the soil.
