At this point of League 2009-2010 (day 18), between the first thirteen classified teams only there is a club with foreign trainer, Real Madrid of Manuel Pellegrini, who occupies the second square (the following one is the Espanyol of Mauricio Pochettino, 14th in the table). Part of the truth that he hides this fact is that the present is one of the periods in which there are less foreigners training in the First: in addition to the already said ones, only Hugo Sáchez began the League in the Almeria and it has been already replaced by the Spanish Juanma Lillo.

So to today only two trainers of the League are foreign, what it takes us to a clear conclusion: the Spanish trainer is fashionable. Or, moving away from the style of “The manolos”, the Spanish trainer is in the place that is deserved. Because this reality is not circumstantial, but it is the consequence of an evolution to the purest style darwinista: the individuals better prepared to face his habitat are those who are provided with more possibilities to survive in him.
Being Spain a country so used to overvaluing what comes of out and to undervaluing the internal thing, the Spanish soccer has been a lot of time looking at the exterior. Now it seems that we look with better eyes, possibly like effect of the successes of last years: the Selection in the Euroglass or the fame of the Barcelona and the Seville in Europe (both with many players of the house). The fact that at present there are so many Spanish trainers who are successful in his team, it deserves that we do an analysis I marry for case (those that I consider to be more important and stopping to Money box out, about that I already spoke his in that post of ‘The best of 2009’).

Unai Emery

Son, nephew and grandson of soccer players, his career as player did not take him to the elite and finally it finished in the Lorca, where injured person of the knee, took charge of the team when his trainer was dismissed. It promoted it to Second the same year and aimed that it was of coming to the First in the following one. Later it recorded for the Almeria, which yes it promoted to the maximum category and left it in her of 8th one year later.

Then the Valencia crossed in his life, a team that from the march of Jaime Ortí in 2004 has had five presidents. It recorded in 2008 for the club che and since then it has had to bear several changes of government: To occur rarely, Mulberry, Soriano, Molina and Weep for you. Also he inherited the sad legacy of disastrous Ronald Koeman, with several isolated players and some other queriendo to flee of a building that seemed to collapse. There are the keys of Emery’s success, beyond his good sports results or his bet for a certain game style: it brought sanity and calmness to the club, one could transmit it to the staff and understood very well what the needs were and what maneuver capacity it had.

Presently the Valencia is 3rd in the League and in sixteenth of end of the Europe League, but especially it is a club that has survived an earthquake thanks to the fact that they have had where to fight, the team that could redo Unai Emery.

Gregorio Manzano

The teacher Gregorio Manzano is one of these strange cases of trainer who had never been a soccer player. In fact, precisely he was a teacher when he began to combine his profession with the stools of his native Jaen. From the year 83 till now it has been in 16 teams. The Valladolid gave him his first opportunity in the First and in 2002-2003 it achieved the stupidity of gaining a Cup of the King with Majorca. Then it was in the Atleti and in the Malaga before returning to Palm.

Apple tree has stood out like a trainer with big psychological aptitude to control and to motivate wardrobes. The latter years in Majorca have been convulsed, with several changes of proprietor and president, always with the imperious need to sell to his best players every summer (the last one to the holders Arango, Jury, Cléber Santana or Navarrese). In spite of everything, there the vermilions are, in Champions positions thanks to the good one to do of his trainer, a man who has gained himself the respect of all, insiders and outsiders, with a humble and calm character that it does not remove that he can put the points on the íes when it needs.

Joaquín Caparrós

Joaquín Caparrós was announced in the world of the soccer when it came to the Seville, although previously it had raised to 2nd the Recreational one of Huelva and had been seleccionador of Andalusia. It came to the team of the Nervion when the president Del Nido began an epoch of economic sanitation to be reaffirmed in the First and Caparrós was the trainer chosen for a project based in the quarry. It did not obtain any title but it helped to create very much the base that has placed the Seville again between the big ones.

After a somewhat fruitless stage in the Sports one, it ended up at Athletic Club in the year 2007. He knew that it was getting into a very special club and from very quickly it demonstrated that it understood the philosophy of the institution and he would be able to work with her. He has always been a trainer with taste for the quarry, with valor to extract players and with good hand to make them grow. After an epoch of institutional instability and economic penury, last year led to the Athletic until the final of the Cup of the King and this period still keeps it alive in the Europe League. And not in vain, in Bilbao he is already met by ‘Jokin‘ Caparrós.

In the next post I will speak about Miguel Ángel Lotina, Manolo Jiménez, Manolo Preciado… and other aspects as regards the ‘Spanish trainer’.
